Mint Fantôme's "うらめし👻サマー (Urameshi Summer)" Is a Ghost Story About Getting Over a Summer Fling

Mint Fantôme (ミント・ファントーム), the self-described otaku ghost maid of Densetsu.EXE, just released うらめし👻サマー (Urameshi Summer) — an original that takes the classic summer-love-and-loss theme and files it under horror instead of nostalgia. Given who’s singing it, that’s exactly the right call.

The Pun Is the Whole Point

The title does a lot of heavy lifting: “urameshiya” is the classic wail of a vengeful ghost in Japanese horror, and stitching it onto “summer” turns a stock J-pop setup — someone haunted by memories of a summer romance — into something literal. For a vocalist whose entire character is a ghost, singing about being haunted by heartbreak isn’t just thematically convenient, it’s basically her singing about her own condition.

A Song That Commits to the Bit

Rather than playing the concept for a single joke and moving on, the lyrics lean fully into the “lingering feelings as literal haunting” idea — the narrator drifting through summer like a zombie, refusing to let go of a moment that’s already over. It’s a cute, hooky delivery wrapped around a genuinely morbid central image, which is a tricky balance a lot of horror-pop concepts fumble by picking one side or the other.

The Team Behind It

Lyrics and composition come from かせきさいだぁ (Kasekicider), with arrangement split between 冨田謙 (Yuzuru Tomita) and 中森泰弘 (Yasuhiro Nakamori), who also handled guitar and keyboard/programming/mixing respectively. The 2D animation comes from illustrator ri-el, and the credits specifically note lyric inspiration from Renko, a nice touch that suggests this concept had real collaborative input behind it rather than being a solo writing exercise.

Why This One Works

A lot of VTuber original songs pick a concept that fits the character on paper but don’t do much with it beyond the surface. Urameshi Summer actually builds its hook, its rap break, and its central metaphor around Mint’s identity as a ghost, which makes it feel less like a song she happens to be singing and more like a song written specifically for her to exist inside of.
