角巻わため (Tsunomaki Watame) released her new original song 灰色の証明 (Haiiro no Shoumei) on June 6th — her birthday — and if you were expecting something soft and gentle, well. You’re in for a surprise. This one’s a proper rock track, and it goes way harder than you might expect from Watame.
灰色の証明: Full Band Rock Energy from Kishida Kyodan
The song was written, composed, and arranged entirely by 岸田 (Kishida) of 岸田教団&THE明星ロケッツ (Kishida Kyodan & The Akeboshi Rockets) — the band behind anime openings like GATE and Highschool of the Dead. And you can absolutely hear it. 灰色の証明 has that tight, aggressive band sound that Kishida Kyodan does so well — heavy guitar work from はやぴ～ and 岸田 himself, driving drums from みっちゃん, and a bassline that keeps everything anchored and punchy. This isn’t a VTuber song with a rock-lite arrangement. This is actual rock.
Watame’s Vocals on 灰色の証明 Are Something Else
What makes Haiiro no Shoumei work so well is how Watame handles it. She’s known for her warm, emotional delivery — those late-night singing streams and tearful ballads are basically Watame’s signature. But here she’s clearly pushing herself somewhere different. Her voice carries real weight against the band arrangement. She doesn’t disappear into the guitars — she holds her own. The emotion is still there, but it’s more contained, more tense. It suits the grey, uncertain mood the title suggests.
Vocal recording was handled by 丸岡詩織, mix by 中谷 浩平, and the whole thing was produced by 堀江晶太 — a name well-known in the anime and VTuber music world. The production is clean and powerful without over-polishing the live band energy out of it.
The MV and Why This Release Matters
The MV, directed by 熊谷芙美子, matches the mood of the song — nothing flashy, just focused and atmospheric. It lets the music do the work, which is the right call here.
Releasing this on her birthday is a very Watame move. She’s been serious about music for years — weekly vocal lessons, solo live shows, stacking original after original — and 灰色の証明 feels like another deliberate step in a direction she’s been building toward. Hololive 4th gen has a lot of musical talent, and Watame has consistently been one of the most committed to it. This song shows exactly why.
